tigerBelly. A Modern Take on Traditional Asian Cuisine

I was fortunate enough to try out a few items from the simple, but elegant menu that you can tell was well thought out by Ki’yen Yeung, owner of another successful local spot Mei Tzu.

Primed to open for public consumption by early next week, it’s safe to say that Granby residents especially are in for a real treat.

Contrary to its predecessor, tigerBelly is a fusion of 3 main Asian delicacies.

  1. Ramen

  2. Pho

  3. Rice Bowl

I don’t think I have met a more humble and hardworking individual in recent memory. Ki’yen’s pride and tradition comes from a long line of family owned restaurants, and it translates into the food brought to your table. There is a lot of thought that goes into the recipes, whether making the broth from an MSG-free base, to perfecting the secret chicken wing recipe, and all the way up to the design of the modest sized restaurant itself.

As soon as you walk in, you can’t help but notice the Manhattan, city-like influence from the wood panel walls, to the dark tradition asian paintings as well as the modernized sushi bar that gives you an open layout glimpse right into the kitchen.

Expect a welcome atmosphere with a splash of sophistication.

I had the opportunity to try the different variations of his take on an american classic with a modern Asian approach: His chicken wings. Whether you try his dry rub or his spicy flavor, they are equally mouth watering. They’re flavors that I can almost personally guarantee you have not tried before. I didn’t know how to react at first because they were so different in the best possible way.

Afterwards, the main dish came out; his egg noodle pho with beef brisket and oh man was that a treat. Talk about fresh. This was one of the only times I can remember feeling refreshed after eating that much food. Usually we all hit that wall of just, don’t talk to me and let me sit here with my pants unbuttoned. Or that sluggishness we feel after a night of Netflix and Chinese food. I’m telling you guys, not only was it delicious, it was equally as fresh.

It’s safe to say that using momentum from his locally accepted success of Mei Tzu, tigerBelly will be nothing short of a hit for those looking for fresh, great tasting asian cravings that is sure to fill your apetite without emptying out your bank account.
